Downhill skiing in Vermont

If you're a skier or snowboarder - or maybe you’re thinking of learning this winter - Vermont is the place to be.

Vermont has 20 alpine ski resorts and 30 cross-country touring centers throughout the state. With 6,052 acres of alpine terrain, 1,269 trails, 179 lifts, and 885 miles of Nordic trails, Vermont skiing accommodates every level, from the advanced downhiller to the training toddler, from moguls and snowboarding to quiet cross-country jaunts on skis or snowshoes.

Many of our resorts offer family-friendly packages, lodging deals, and special amenities for kids as well as more interesting and exciting ways for you to spend your downtime off the mountain. Like relaxing spas, fun entertainment centers, shopping, dining, and of course, the classic apres-ski!

image [snowboarder in powder]With an average annual mountain snowfall of about 225 inches, and the majority of Vermont’s terrain covered by state-of-the-art snowmaking, Vermont is proud to offer the longest ski season on the east coast! Vermont’s resorts also boast more 2,000-ft vertical terrain than all the resorts in New Hampshire, Maine, and New York combined!

Vermont is big mountain skiing and riding with a small-town feel. No matter where you are in Vermont, you are within about an hour’s drive of great skiing. And usually much less! Every ability level from gentle teaching slopes, to miles of wide open boulevards for intermediate cruising, to deep powder glades, challenging moguls and demanding steeps for experts is here for the taking.

Vermont is also the proud home to the first U.S. Olympic gold medal winner in Nordic skiing, Bill Koch, as well as many other Olympic medal winners including Ross Powers, Kelly Clark, Hannah Teter, Lindsey Jacobellis, Billy Kidd, Andrea Meade and others in skiing and snowboarding events.

The Green Mountain State is a haven for skiers and riders of all tastes and experience levels. Make this the best winter ever - in Vermont.
