Heritage Days in Windsor

One of the most popular summer events in Southern Windsor County is the Annual Windsor Heritage Days, which will take place this summer in Windsor Vermont.

The Seventh Annual Festival, presented by the 1777 Republic of Vermont Committee, celebrates Windsor as "The Birthplace of Vermont," where the State's first constitution was ratified July 8, 1777, and where the Republic of Vermont (1777-1791) was born. Heritage Days will run from 10 am – 4 pm each day.

This family-oriented event takes visitors back in time with encampments, storytelling, living history demonstrations, grand parades, period dance, and live traditional music. Other attractions and activities include horse-drawn carriage rides, food vendors, juried arts and crafts, sidewalk sales, historic home tours, ice cream socials, and Victorian tea parties. Public favorites are the grand reenactment, featuring reenactors, mounted cavalry, and fife and drum corps from the French and Indian War period to the Second World War and the Cavalcade of Horses parade featuring some of the most renowned riders and antique carriages of the area.

Throughout the event, visitors enjoy access to Windsor's landmarks including historic homes, the Old Constitution House, the American Precision Museum, the Cornish Colony Museum, and the Vermont State Craft Gallery. Visitors are encouraged to actively participate and truly experience history by attending in the period attire of their choice. Although there is no formal admission charge or parking fee, visitors are encouraged to become honorary citizens of the Republic of Vermont by purchasing a Republic of Vermont Souvenir Passport.
